The genius of the late Lee Alexander McQueen is undisputed in the fashion world. The man who birthed numerous moments of runway magic was gone too soon, found hanging in his London flat at age 40. Now, a provocative new book promises to reveal intimate details of the designer’s life, straight from the mouths of his own family, friends and last lovers. While his talent is undeniable, the shocking new claims are sure to give readers an in-depth look into the life of one of fashion’s most beloved figures.

While these claims may alter opinions of the man and his legacy, true fans of McQueen may have long ago accepted the method to his madness. The book dives into hot topics like the designer’s previous marriage, an HIV diagnosis and sexual abuse claims from his childhood.

While the book’s claims are certainly disturbing, they’re not unheard of for fans of McQueen and his craft. He was the type to often walk the fine line of art and indecency, incorporating harsh elements like blood and faux urine for shock value.

‘I don’t want to do a cocktail party: I’d rather people left my shows and vomited,’ he said. ‘I prefer extreme reactions. I want heart attacks. I want ambulances.’
The book, Alexander McQueen: Blood Beneath The Skin by Andrew Wilson is set for release on February 26.
