1. The Bearded Dragon Lizard
It may be a pet that mom automatically screams “No Way” to, but the bearded dragon lizard is one of the most gentlest reptiles. They love to be handled, sleep during the night and love a misty shower now and then.
2. Chinchilla
The Chinchilla isn’t a drink found in Mexico. It is actually a small rodent that is quick when let out of its cage. They are cute and a perfect pet for someone 13 or older.
3. Hedgehog
The Hedgehog can develop a great personality depending on how much interaction it has with its owner. Known to be a shy creature, a hedgehog is similar to a hamster.
4. The Piranha
If you are looking for an aggressive fish, you have found one in the Piranha. They love to hunt other fish and are very active. And you never want to feed them with your bare hand.
5. The Scorpion
While they are dangerous and sting with their tail, Scorpions are a favorite of pet owners because of their physiological power their looks provide. While not a pet for children, a scorpion would make a great exotic pet.
6. Boa Constrictor
A Boa Constrictor is not a poisonous snake. Rather, they kill their prey by strangling their prey. The Boa is a favorite pet among snake owners to own.
7. Mexican Red Footed Tarantula
While many would run away from the site of a tarantula, that is exactly their first line of defense, to run. Their colors make them a beautiful pet to own and the Mexican Red Footed Tarantula is considered a beginners pet when owning one.
8. Madagascar Hissing Cockroach
For many, pest control guys are called to eradicate a home of roaches, but for some exotic pet owners, the Madagascar Hissing Cockroach is a favorite. They are a tough breed, but any cockroach is tough.
9. Green Iguana
The Green Iguana is a slow moving pet that will spend his time basking in the heat and staring out of the glass. It is rare that it will move and they are herbivorous.
10. The Hermit Crab
If you choose to own a Hermit Crab, consider naming him Sebastian. A Hermit Crab requires enough room to roam and they need enough humidity to avoid suffocating.
11. Bush Baby
The Baby Bush is a cute tree dwelling marsupial from Africa. Because they love trees, their habitat must provide tree branches to make them feel safe.
12. Southern Tamandua
The Southern Tamandua is a great exterminator when it comes to ant hills and termite mounds. Forget calling Termite company to get rid of your problems. Hire a Southern Tamandua. They are a lot cuter.
13. Flying Squirrel
The first question almost anyone asks is can the Flying Squirrel really fly. The answer is “yes it can”. This marsupial loves to run on a wheel like a hamster and loves fresh fruits and nuts.
14. Kinkajou
The Kinkajou is a cousin to the racoon, so his characteristics are the same as a racoon. They are very friendly and vocal. If you choose a Kinkajou as an exotic pet, expect your house to be filled with them talking to you.
15. Chanterelle Fennec
If you are thinking the Chanterelle Fennec looks like a fox, you are correct. It is a small fox that is smaller than a dog and a little larger than a cat. And they are friendly creatures that are perfect for the entire family. They will be cat like but playful like the family dog.
16. Mini Donkey
When it comes to food, mini chimicangas and mini burritos are a favorite. So why not a mini donkey when it comes to exotic pets? The mini donkey will provide comedy to your family but may frustrate you with their stubbornness.
17. Pygmy Goat
If the Pygmy Goat is a choice for you and your family, it is advisable that you get more than one. They love to be with their own. And make sure you have enough energy to stay up with them.
18. The Axototl
The Axolotl is a salamander type of fish that is able to regrow any part of its body if it is injured. It is found in the ocean around Mexico and can grow to be a larger fish.
19. Monkey
Owning a monkey has to be one of the coolest things ever. But it is like raising a child that never grows up. They are very intelligent and will desire more independence as they grow older. But they will never ask for the car keys!
20. Bengal Cat
The Bengal Cat is a cat even non-cat lovers can fall in love with. Its wild looking fur is an eye catcher and it is very energetic.
Before running out and bringing one of these exotic animals home, check with your local authorities to make sure owning one is legal in your area.
