Palestinian stabs soldier in West Bank, shot dead

Most of the others have been killed in clashes with security forces.

The stabber, identified by Israel Police as a 17-year-old resident of eastern Jerusalem who holds Israeli citizenship, was shot by police at the scene and evacuated to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Amjad Abu Asab, who heads an East Jerusalem committee for prisoners’ families, said that both children were detained last Wednesday and were “interrogated in the absence of adult family members and lawyers, which is a serious violation of Israeli law and worldwide law”.

And as the investigation into the Duma attack dragged on, Palestinians complained of a double-standard, where suspected Palestinian militants are quickly rounded up and prosecuted under a military legal system that gives them few rights while Jewish Israelis are protected by the country’s criminal laws. “I know he was at home that night and that he didn’t do anything”, he said.

He spent years living in various outposts as part of the Hilltop Youth Movement, a group of young Jews who organize unauthorized trailer communes on the hilltops in the West Bank that are meant to claim the land from the Palestinians.

More than 60 percent of the West Bank is already under complete Israeli control.

The police at Herzyla were in a state of alert after the vehicle that drove through the roadblock near Jerusalem was found abandoned after the driver, suspected of planning an attack, fled on foot.

“The Israeli justice system is now in the spotlight”, he said. An Arab man who remains on the loose is the primary suspect, though a motive hasn’t officially been determined yet.

Palestine joined the ICC in April and already handed over two files documenting alleged Israeli crimes during 2014 Israeli Operation Protective Edge as well as Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

A Palestinian stabbed and wounded a soldier in the southern West Bank on Tuesday before being shot dead, the army said, the latest in a three-month wave of attacks.

Israel has indicted Jewish extremists suspected in a July arson attack on a Palestinian home that killed a toddler and his parents. Later in the day, a soldier was shot in the leg at a highway junction in the Hebron Hills area.
