Indian Railway officials halted and cancelled many trains after bomb scare.
“Train had departed from New Delhi Railway Station on time (6.10 am), therefore the train was stopped and checked at Ghaziabad railway station”, A senior Railway official Neeraj Kumar said.
However, the railway authorities have stated that there was nothing to panic about as the search was conducted following a tip-off by the Mumbai ATS that had received an e-mail about a possible terror threat.
The Mumbai Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has informed the Railway Board of an email threatening a bomb aboard New Delhi trains bound for Kanpur, according the Zee News broadcaster.
Later, it was found that the threat was a hoax. The Assistant Sub-Inspector wrote to the chief station manager requesting him that all Delhi-Kanpur trains be checked before being allowed to leave.
“We have deployed bomb disposal squad and intensified the general checking”, Dumbere Millind Mahadeo, DCP Railways, said.
The bomb scare came a day after the terrorist attack on the Pathankot air base in Punjab that left four infiltrators and three security personnel dead. The train was then evacuated and a massive search was carried out.
Security was beefed up at New Delhi Railway Station and other railway station in Delhi following the threat.
