Woman charged with murder in Vegas Strip crash

The family of a mother accused of intentionally running over dozens of pedestrians, killing one woman, on the Las Vegas Strip is standing by her.

A hospital official says three people who were injured in a crash on the Las Vegas Strip are in critical condition.

After the deadly crash, she told authorities she was hassled by security guards from parking lots where she and her toddler were trying to sleep.

Holloway had parked near the Tuscany Casino, off the Strip a few blocks from the crash, and told a valet driver to call 911 because she had hit some pedestrians, Lombardo said.

“Her license was suspended by the Oregon DMV in 2012 and was also suspended by (Portland’s) Multnomah County in 2013 and has not been reinstated”, said Oregon Department of Transportation spokeswoman Sally Ridenour.

Cops have identified Lakeisha Holloway, 24, as the person they believe drove an Oldsmobile on a pavement along the crowded pavement on Sunday night.

Hardaway wouldn’t comment on Holloway’s current situation, but says her cousin has never been confrontational and was passing through Las Vegas.

According to police, the auto with OR license plates were driven onto the sidewalk two OR more times and the driver, who is in her 20s, is being questioned and blood is being drawn for testing. She might have been on her way to Texas to find the estranged father of her daughter, authorities said. Bystanders pounded on the vehicle window and tried to open the door in a futile attempt to stop her, he said.

The child is in protective custody.

Holloway wouldn’t tell police why she drove on the sidewalk, but she did say she remembered a body bouncing off her windshield and breaking it, the arrest report revealed.

She said Holloway is a former fashion model who attended Portland Community College and had created her own fashion line. “That’s the best way I can describe it”, Lombardo reportedly said, refusing to divulge what she said.

On Tuesday, she was formally charged with murder with a deadly weapon and with one count of leaving the scene of an accident, also a felony, according to a criminal complaint.

Authorities did not give a possible motive for the crash on a busy stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard across from the dancing water fountains of the Bellagio hotel-casino where visitors crowd sidewalks as they head from one casino to another.

Abood said he and another public defender, Scott Coffee, were still collecting information and didn’t know whether Holloway’s mental health will emerge as a defence. A police drug-recognition expert said it appeared she wasn’t drunk, but may have been under the influence of a stimulant.

Justin Cochrane of Santa Barbara, California, said the auto appeared to be going 30 to 40 miles per hour when it struck the pedestrians.

“I am very appreciative of the fine work of Sheriff Lombardo, the entire Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County Fire Department”, Sandoval said in a statement.

Pacific University, in OR, said Monday that four of its students were among the injured.
