Sens. Cruz and Rubio Surge in New Hampshire

Meanwhile, Nobel prize victor Malala Yousafzai condemned Trump’s views on Muslims on Tuesday, at a sombre ceremony to remember the 134 children killed in a Taliban attack on a Pakistani school a year ago.

Trump finally says without exception he won’t run as a third party candidate.

Less than twelve hours after Tuesday’s night GOP debate, Florida Sen.

Trump has been under fire for proposing that Muslims be blocked from entering the USA, among many other controversial comments. At the same time, Trump’s rivals offered careful, cautious rebuttals to the mogul’s idea, avoiding describing it as fascist or un-American, as even some Republicans critics did.

Underscoring his move to the right on the issue is Cruz’s shift on the expansion of legal immigration, something strongly supported by big business interests who normally bankroll Republican candidates.

“Donald, you’re not going to be able to insult your way to the presidency”, Bush said.

“I understand why Donald made that proposal”, Texas Sen.

Republican Sen. Mike Lee on Wednesday slammed Florida Sen.

Trump continued his condemnation of Bush at a Wednesday rally in Mesa, Arizona, as he simultaneously dismissed Bush’s own broadsides.

Chairman Richard Burr of North Carolina said that any time specific numbers are discussed a question emerges as to whether it’s classified or open-source.

“Look, this is not a serious proposal”, Bush said of Trump’s proposal to ban Muslims.

“We should have used the money that we spent on toppling dictators for domestic infrastructure”, said Mr. Trump. “He’s a chaos candidate, and he’ll be a chaos president”. “Every parent is wondering, how do we keep our kids safe?”

REACTION: Many in attendance said they were impressed by Rubio’s remarks and would include him among their favorite candidates, though they’re not ready to make a final decision. Now, polls suggest that he’s fallen off the pace. “Our country is out of control”, Trump said. He is at his best when calling out the BS of his stage-mates and lambasting President Obama and Hillary Clinton. People like what I say.

“I’ve gained great respect for the Republican leadership”, he said. He said that very simply because he has failed in this campaign.

It’s also the first debate in which Cruz has risen to the top of the pile, putting him in Trump’s line of fire. Rubio was a co-author of comprehensive bipartisan Senate legislation in 2013 that would have created that pathway, but he has since said the nation’s immigration crisis must be addressed in piecemeal fashion, with legalization only an option after the U.S.-Mexico border is secured.

Here & Now’s GOP political analyst Paris Dennard speaks with host Jeremy Hobson about the debate’s highlights and what it may mean as the candidates head into 2016.
