With the announcement of baby Max a video was posted on the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Facebook page of the couple talking about their hopes for their daughter (below).
The 31-year-old Facebook co-founder is now worth an estimated $45,2 billion as of November 2015, reports The Richest. However, a Facebook filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission today sheds more light on how Zuckerberg plans to gradually donate his shares to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.
It goes on to lay out a mission of combating disease around the world, advancing human potential and promoting equality.
As a starting point, the initiative will focus on personalising learning, connecting more people to one another by building stronger communities and curing disease.
“Your mother and I don’t yet have the words to describe the hope you give us for the future”, Zuckerberg said at the start of the letter to Max. “We can’t wait to see what you bring to this world”, the letter said.
Expectedly, Zuckerberg shared the news on the social network in a letter to his newborn daughter.
Zuckerberg declares that “medicine has only been a real science for less than 100 years” – which is certainly arguable as a statement – but does note that technology has a place in improving health for future generations.
Said Mark Zuckerberg on the even of his daughter’s birth and declared they are going to donate the 99% of Facebook shares all the way and they are not interested to hold them for gaining at all.
More details about the donation will be released once the new parents return from paternity and maternity leave.
With the announcement, Zuckerberg joins the likes of other billionaires such as Warren Buffett and Bill Gates who have promised to give away their vast fortunes.
