N.Korea nuclear test ‘grave threat to peace and security’, monitor says

North Korea is thought to have a handful of rudimentary nuclear bombs and has spent decades trying to flawless a multistage, long-range missile to eventually carry smaller versions of those bombs.

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded the magnitude of the tremor at 5.1.

By succeeding in the H-bomb test, North Korea “joined the advanced ranks of nuclear weapons states possessed of even H-bomb”, it said.

The surprise test was personally ordered by North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un and came just two days before his birthday. Another test would further North Korea’s global isolation by prompting a push for new, tougher sanctions at the United Nations and worsening Pyongyang’s already bad ties with Washington and its neighbors. “We won’t use the nuclear weapon as long as there’s no invasion of our autonomy”.

This Nuclear Test, if proved to be true, is a major double entendre to their Northern Ally and Nuclear Giant, China.

The U.S. Air Force has aircraft created to detect the evidence of a nuclear test, and such aircraft could be deployed from a U.S. base on the Japanese island of Okinawa to search for clues.

Deputy chief of national security Cho Tae-yong added that the South would work with other nations to do everything possible to punish Pyongyang.

In 2005, North Korea declared itself a nuclear power, and conducted several nuclear weapons tests, sparking concerns in the worldwide community, particularly in neighboring South Korea. In September, the Chinese foreign minister urged the Pyongyang government not to do anything that could increase regional tensions. To build a credible nuclear program, the North must explode new nuclear devices – including miniaturized ones – so its scientists can continually improve their designs and technology.

“This act constitutes a breach of the universally accepted norm against nuclear testing”, Lassina Zerbo, head of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation which monitors a ban on nuclear tests told Reuters. “I am convinced it will have repercussions on North Korea and global peace and stability”.
