Man held girlfriend, 11 children in motel room

After a standoff with police on Tuesday, a man kept a woman and 11 children hostage inside a motel near Atlanta.

The suspect was being brought to a hospital and everyone else involved was safe, according to the DeKalb County Police Department’s Twitter account.

Police are concerned the children are in danger.

Thomas is not married to the mother of his children, police said.

Police initially responded to the motel in Decatur because of a domestic assault report.

Conroy said the hotel had to be evacuated as the SWAT team negotiated with Thomas.

No one else in the room was injured.

Authorities had surrounded the motel as the man refused to leave a room, prompting concerns about the safety of several children inside the building. “After five hours of negotiation attempts SWAT made entry into the room”.

In January 2015, Thomas was charged with aggravated assault and two counts of armed robbery, according to online court records.
