Despite Cosby’s lawyers efforts, Camille Cosby is scheduled to be deposed Wednesday, January 6.
Conspicuously absent was the disgraced comedian’s wife of more than a half-century, Camille Cosby, who has vowed to no longer be her husband’s crutch, family insiders told The New York Post.
A federal magistrate judge in MA has rejected arguments by Mrs. Cosby, who not only has been married to the entertainer for nearly 52 years but has also been his business manager, the Guardian reported.
They are among more than 50 women who have levelled similar allegations at the star. Bill is now free on $1 million bail and his lawyer maintains his claim of innocence. She settled a civil case against Cosby for an undisclosed sum in 2006.
The case stems from accusations by Andrea Constand, 44, a former basketball team manager at Temple University in Philadelphia, Cosby’s alma mater.
Cosby, who exemplified the model family man in his hit television series The Cosby Show, was charged with aggravated indecent assault, which carries a maximum penalty of five to 10 years in jail.
He was officially charged with drugging and sexually assaulting a woman in 2004 at his home near Philadelphia last week. According to court documents, Camille Cosby’s lawyers sought to quash the order to testify at the deposition, citing Massachusetts’ marital disqualification law, “or in the alternative, a protective order limiting its scope”.
There was other bad news for Cosby this past week. Bill tripped on the concrete curb, frowned and shook his head “no” at reporters who tried to ask Cosby for a statement about the arrest warrant.
The seven women filed the suit because Cosby portrayed them as liars after they publicly accused him of assaulting them, and in the case.
On Thursday December 31, Cosby posted his first tweet in months, expressing gratitude to supporters.
The message says, “Friends and fans, Thank You”.
To date, Cosby has been accused by 54 women of sexual misconduct.
