Bulls’ Butler tears up Raptors defence

The game between the Raptors and Bulls will take place today, January 3, at 3:30 p.m. EST.

Jordan’s record was 39 points in the second half versus Milwaukee in 1989.

Chicago Bulls’ Jimmy Butler celebrates a three-point basket against the Toronto Raptors during second half NBA basketball action in Toronto on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016.

Forwards Pau Gasol and Nikola Mirotic scored 17 points apiece for the Bulls.

DeMar DeRozan topped Toronto (21-14) with 24 points, while Kyle Lowry added 22 points and 10 assists in the Raptors’ last home game for two weeks.

Chicago played without Derrick Rose, who missed his second straight game due to right hamstring tendinitis.

Sunday, they led for virtually all but the first quarter in a thrilling Eastern Conference matchup, taking an 87-81 advantage into the fourth quarter in front of a capacity crowd of 19,800 fans at the Air Canada Centre.

Zaza Pachulia registered 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Mavericks.

Despite their standings, the Bulls have had a lot of issues lately and are far from the risky club they once were only a few seasons ago. Rookie reserve Bobby Portis (Little Rock Hall, Arkansas Razorbacks) had 16 points and 10 rebounds in his third consecutive game scoring 10 or more points.

“Like I said, I don’t want to speak too much”, Carroll said.

Butler made one of two free throws with 4.6 seconds to go and DeRozan missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.

“We talk and I try to pick his spirits up”.

The second half started with the Raptors picking right back up where they left off. While a healthy portion of their offense came as a result of crisp ball movement or simply exploiting Mirotic – it’s time to once again reconsider his future as a wing player – as he was no match for Carroll, and the Raps did what good teams do: make open shots. DeRozan paced the Raptors with 17, giving more juice to his growing All-Star game campaign.

The Wizards shot just 34.1 percent and their 75 points were a season low.

Following a 107-91 rout by the Knicks on Dec 19, Butler called out Bulls first-year coach Fred Hoiberg, saying he needed to coach the team harder and hold them more accountable. The Knicks missed their first nine shots from the field until forward Kristaps Porzingis made a layup to snap the drought almost four minutes after the opening tip. For the 15th time in 21 games against teams with winning records, they weren’t good enough to win.

Carmelo Anthony had a decent performance with 20 points and seven rebounds.

The Chicago Bulls need to carry some of their momentum in their upcoming games.

CJ McCollum (25 points) guided the Portland Trail Blazers past the Denver Nuggets 112-106 and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Phoenix Suns 97-77.
