“We reported this to Saudi Police”.
A video of the 3 men beaten by their employer in Abha, Saudi Arabia, had surfaced on social networking sites and mobile messaging services before being shown in Indian media.
The three workers were reportedly duped by a placement agency that made false promises of getting them jobs.
This unequal relationship means employees are frequently misled, promised one kind of a job at a certain salary and given something else entirely. “But when they reached there, the agent sent them to a Saudi man and was forced to do loading and other works in a brick factory”, said Anju, Abhilash’s sister.
In the WhatsApp video, which the men recorded and sent to their families in Kerala, a Saudi employer can be seen beating the men with a wooden plank.
Meanwhile the Police have registered a case and the cop in question has been suspended.
On Wednesday, the minister stated that India had approached the Saudi police and got the youths police protection.
