Nigeria has given Boko Haram TKO

Contemporaneous to his presentation of the 2016 national budget, Buhari said that Boko Haram can no longer marshal forces to attack towns or military installations as they did before, and that the Nigerian military has been reorganized and reequipped.

“Articulated conventional attacks on centers of communication and populations…they are no longer capable of doing that effectively”, Buhari said.

Critics of the government argued that it has exaggerated the scale of its success against the militants, and that each time the army claims to have wiped out Boko Haram, the militants have quietly rebuilt.

But the jihadists in response have increasingly resorted to suicide bombers – many of them young children – to wage war for an independent Islamic state in the country.

Buhari also said that the terrorists had chased out of Adamawa and Yobe states and remained a force only in Borno state.

“I think, technically, we have won the war”, the president declared. Cameroon is part of a regional task force set up to fight Boko Haram terrorists, who sometimes infiltrate Nigeria’s neighbors, including Cameroon, to carry out terrorist attacks there. Most of the girls haven’t been found. Associated Press reports that overall, “Boko Haram’s insurgency has killed about 20,000 people and displaced 2.3 million, according to Amnesty International and the United Nations”.

Nigerian refugees said on November 30 that Cameroonian troops had staged a similar chase, killing 150 villagers.

Boko Haram has reverted to using improvised explosive devices (IEDs)”, he stated.

“I can confidently say this because just recently, I led a group of 33 journalists from both the local and worldwide media to the hot bed of the insurgency, that is, Maiduguri, Kondugua, Kaoure and Bama”, he said.

Boko Haram has destroyed swathes of what little infrastructure existed in the country’s impoverished north at a time when Nigeria’s coffers are empty as a result of the plunging price in oil. We have got some hardware for them and we have gotten retraining from the British, Americans and with the French.
