David Fincher Developing Serial Killer Series Mindhunter for Netflix

Gee, David Fincher and a property about obsessive pursuits and serial killing?

The Zodiac and Seven director is developing a new series for Netflix titled Mindhunters.

Per Deadline, Fincher is collaborating with Charlize Theron on “Mindhunter“, his second drama series for Netflix.

John Douglas-who had a hand in coining the phrase “serial killer”-retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1995 and penned the best-selling Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit a year later”.

The drama series, like the book, will go behind the scenes of the hunt for serial killers and the profiling techniques that are used to track them down. His work has been the basis for numerous fictional characters, including Jack Crawford in The Silence of the Lambs, Will Graham on TV’s Hannibal, and Jason Gideon of Criminal Minds.

Netflix will reportedly produce the series previously optioned by HBO and Fox 21, with Theron and Fincher on board as executive producers. Netflix has not replied on the matter. Mindhunter was initially developed for HBO several years ago but it seems like that Fincher/HBO partnership that you would assume would be very fruitful is just not to be. The book tells the backstory of Douglas’ methods for profiling and catching some of the most notorious serial killers, like the Atlanta child murderer and the Seattle Green River Killer Gary Ridgway.
