Seven get death for rape, mutilation and killing mentally-challenged woman

December 21: A Rohtak session court on Monday sentenced to death seven accused in the Nepali deaf and dumb girl’s rape and murder case.

According to the Hindustan Times, Judge Seema Singhal ordered each of the men should be death by hanging. Apart from the seven men, a minor was also involved in the crime and is being tried by the Juvenile Justice Board.

The body was found without key organs; sticks, stones and condoms were stuffed into her private parts. The case had hogged media headlines earlier this year, and the opposition had targeted the Manohar Lal Khattar government over alleged deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

AN INDIAN COURT has sentenced seven men to death for the rape and murder of a woman.

The judge’s comments come on the same day India’s top court rejected an appeal against the release of the youngest attacker in a fatal gang-rape of a student in New Delhi on a moving bus in 2012, sparking fury from the victim’s parents and a massive public outcry.

Malik also said the court has said that “all the sentences will run consecutively”.

Those convicted are Rajesh, Sunil, Sarwar, Manbir, Sunil alias Maddha, Pawan and Parmod alias Padam.

The eighth accused, a minor, hails from Nepal and his trial is under way at a juvenile court.

The seven convicts are all residents of Gaddi Kheri village in Rohtak district. A ninth had committed suicide before he could be arrested. The woman from Nepal, who was staying with her sister and brother-in-law at Chinyot Colony in Rohtak, had gone missing from their house on February 1.

The woman’s mutilated body was found in an agricultural field near Bahu Akbarpur village on the Rohtak-Hisar highway, about 20 km from Rohtak, by villagers on February 4 this year.
