U2’s Bono, performing in Paris, honours victims of attacks in France, California

Bono acknowledged the hundreds of others who have passed away due to terrorism and senseless acts of violence around the world, telling the audience, “Grief is like a wound that never fully closes”.

The worst massacre took place at the Bataclan venue, where 89 people were killed on the night the Eagles of Death Metal was playing.

When asked if Paris would be a theme on a new album, Bono mentioned a new song called “SOS (Streets of Surrender)”, which he started writing for Italian singer Zucchero.

U2 will play a second Paris concert on Monday evening.

During the set, U2 displayed the victims’ names in blue, white, and red on a massive screen behind the band.

Reuters reports the U2 front man then said: “If you love liberty, then Paris is your hometown”.

Rock band U2 have written a song in tribute to Paris after the recent attacks that left 130 people dead.

During the encore, Bono reportedly wrapped himself in the French tricolor and sang a verse from “Ne Me Quitte Pas” or “Don’t Leave Me” by Belgian singer Jacques Brel.

‘We stand together with the families of those killed in Paris. “We stand together with the families of those killed in San Bernardino”, Bono said at one point. “We stand together with the families who have lost lives here in Paris“.

The emotional high-point of the show came at the end after Smith had joined the band for a rousing version of her song “People Have The Power“.

“I was to come the last day and I was sitting in the airport in LAX and I saw the news and I just thought, ‘Oh my God!’ I didn’t know what to do”, she said.

The CNN interview aired Sunday to coincide with U2’s return to Paris for the first of a brace of concerts at AccorHotels Arena on December 6-7. “I think we’re actually starting the process of resistance, of defiance against this movement”, he added, referring to the terrorist organization, “Islamic State”, which was behind November’s attacks.

However, U2 quelled those rumors when they posted a message on their website yesterday saying the EODM would not appear on stage with them on Sunday night.
