A bottle of wine is nice for almost any occasion, and this wooden wine box designed to store almost anything will add a personal touch to your man cave. As we know, most true wine aficionados tend to turn their noses up at the wine that comes in a box. For them, only the finest bottled wine is supposed to go in there. This Wooden Wine Box is the perfect item for a true wine enthusiast.
We strongly recommended using weather-resistant lumber, such as pressure-treated lumber, pine or cedar for quality and a long useful lifetime of the product. Keep reading to learn how to build a wooden wine box for your man cave.

- 2 pieces of 1×4 lumber – 3 1/2″ long
- 2 pieces of 14 1/4″ lumber long
- 2 piece of 1×4 lumber – 12 3/4″ long

The first step of the project is to build the frame of the wine box.

Draft a rough diagram to help lay out the ground work for your wooden wine box. Now you can roughly attach the pieces together to see if everything is in place, before actually proceeding any further.

Then attach the hinges and the latch to the wine box. If you are ready, let’s start.
Start by cutting the components for the wine box. Don’t forget to use sandpaper to smoothen the cut edges. And, remember to wear your safety glasses for protection.
Cut the lumber into several pieces for the sides, bottom and top of the wine box.
Make sure the edges are aligned and check if the corners are square.
With router table cut out the dadoes for the bottom of the box on a 45 degree angle.
Put all the frame’s pieces of the wine box together, using 1 1/4″ brad nails and glue. You can tape it up all up for extra assemble. Apply wood glue to the joints and make sure the edges are flush, before driving the brad nails in.
The wine box is starting to take shape now. Pull off the tape and sand it up to smooth the edges.
Locate and mark where you plan to install the hinges, this will help make things easier in the following steps.
With a craft knife, you can mark where it is going to place the hinge. Then choose your favorite chisel to hog out the lumber
One of the last steps of the project is to install the hinges of the wine box. Drill out the pilot holes and attach the hinges into place using 1/2″ screws to place it.
Now, center the latch to the lid and secure it into place with 1/2″ screws.
Time to apply some finishing now. This is where all your hard work finally starts to show off. Use a couple coats of danish oil and Deft lacquer finish spray, to get a more natural classic wood look for your wine box.
To improve that classic vintage look for your wine box, find some antique hardware, hasp, and hinges to costume it.
Add some maple shavings for cushioning on the inside of the box.
Place your bottle of wine and look how it fits in your wooden wine box.
